Alienum phaedrum torquatos nec eu, vis detraxit periculis ex, nihil expetendis in mei. Mei an pericula euripidis, hinc partem ei est.

The CFO of today is facing a rapidly changing environment, increasingly due to technological development. Previously, the CFO’s responsibility was within the finance function alone, but as times are changing, the CFO now has the opportunity to deliver an entirely new value proposition. To remain at the top, CFOs have to act and capture the full potential of new technologies and implement them through inspiring leadership. Building on this, CFO Insights 2019 will address which competencies are needed to succeed as CFO today and in the future. Through inspiring cases, panel debates and workshops, it will give insights into which tools you should invest in, what type of mindset is paramount to succeed and how you create more value for your customers.

Three primary topics will guide the conference: Leadership and Strategy, Technological Value Creation, and Future Trends

The first main topic will address how the requirements and tasks of today’s CFO are expanding into new areas. Beyond having responsibility for the finance function, the modern CFO is now asked to be a strategic advisor on multiple areas vital to the firm. This topic will dive into transformation management, the challenges of M&A deals, and how the CFO can create value by being a board member.

The second main topic will focus on how using technology can create more value and lead to better business decisions. It will address how investing in the right technology can help you free up resources and achieve operational excellence. The topic will touch upon data management, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and robotic process automation.

The third main topic will provide insights into what the future looks like as a result of innovation and technological development. This will include how digitalization is challenging the traditional business models of incumbents, and how you can create value for your organization by introducing the right new technologies.

The CFO role is transforming at a rapid pace and so are the responsibilities. More and more companies are recruiting CFOs for prominent board positions. But how exactly does a modern CFO create value by being a member of the board, and why do they play an important role in the composition of the board? What competencies do they need in the age of technology? What about diversity in the boardroom? How can you accelerate your board career?

These are some of the questions that will be discussed in this interesting and relevant panel debate.

9:45 - 10:30 Post-Deal Impact

The volume of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is at the highest in many years, putting M&A at the top of the agenda for many professionals. Yet, despite the high activity, far from all M&A deals are successful, as challenges tied to an M&A process are many.

This panel will focus on the challenges regarding integration after an M&A transaction and realizing synergies, as most challenges lie herewith. These challenges will be addressed through an exciting discussion with a diverse panel representing different industries and backgrounds. The panel participants will through their own experiences share their success stories and greatest learnings.

This leads to the following questions for discussion:

  • Why do deals succeed and fail? What are the biggest risks?
  • What are the key success factors in post-M&A integrations?
  • How to succeed with synergy realization in balance with integration priorities?
  • How to ensure unity in the leadership early on? And how to retain and ensure full commitment in the organization?

10:45 - 11:15 How To Lead A Transformed Finance Function

The finance function has been under transformation for decades and we have come far.

  • Finance operations have been put in shared service centers.
  • Number and report generation has been automated through BI and with new analytics capabilities in place the data to insight journey has been accelerated.
  • Business partnering has been rolled out as a means to leverage our insights to drive business stakeholders to make better decisions.

Yet, as a function we still struggle to realize our potential and boost value creation. Why is that? The answer is leadership or rather that we’re missing the answers on how to lead a transformed finance function and realize the human potential trapped inside of it. We must solve this challenge for the transformation to be a success!

In this session we’ll be discussing the critical question of how to lead a transformed Finance function. A function where the Finance Professional is in focus for the insights they can bring to the table to drive better decision-making. Below are some of the main questions we’ll try to answer.

  • Why have we struggled to realize the potential of the transformation?
  • How is leading the transformed function different from the past?
  • How does a great finance leader of the future look like?

10:45 - 11:15 Become Data-Driven or Die

Based on a study made by New Vantage Partners LLC, 85% of all companies are trying to be data-driven. Only 37% of these say they have been successful. The finance function is going through a digital transformation. To win the race, you should have a strategy in place to become data-driven.
In this session, you will meet Klaus Hosbond Skovrup, VP at NNIT, who is leading the digital transformation in their finance function. He will let us in on his experiences with NNIT’s journey to become data-driven and reveal what it takes to get there.
You will also meet Toke Kruse, Founder & CGO at Bilagscan, and Mikael Iuel-Brockdorff, CEO at Accobat. They are on a mission to digitally transform organizations, and they have the tools and the knowledge to do so.

The panel will be discussing
• Why it is important to have a data strategy and act on it now
• Why companies still are struggling to implement a data-driven strategy
• What it takes from the organization in terms of time and money and human resources
• In what pace should an organization go through the transformation and when has it succeeded?
• Why is finance not the most data-driven area in the company anymore and what can we do about it?
• Does the new data paradigm require other resources in the finance department?

11:20 - 12:05 The Era of Always-On Transformation

In today’s world, we are facing constant change as a result of technological innovation, digitalization and other factors like geopolitics. This requires us all to become more adaptable and agile in our way of thinking and acting. But when it comes to change, we all tend to be resistant even though it is inevitable if we want to survive and stay relevant in the future. More specifically this is also influencing the CFO as the battlefield of the role is growing and facing new dynamics.

This leads to the following questions for discussion:

  • How do you prepare and execute successful transformations in an ever-changing era?
  • What are the must-win battles within (digital) transformations?
  • How can you establish a best practice transformation playbook in your company?
  • Which competencies are needed to succeed as a CFO in the future?
  • What organizational considerations are relevant? What about culture?
  • What role do geopolitics play for businesses today?

This session will give you new perspectives and insights from well-experienced CFOs and leaders.

13:40 - 14:25 Amplified Intelligence

Our world has become more complex and is influencing the finance function by new technological and regulatory factors. Consequently, many CFOs are dealing with complex and massive data sets which include unprecedented potential. How can CFOs unlock value from their data? Usage of artificial intelligence, IoT, big data analytics etc. can help them to create powerful insights which will enable strong decision making.

This panel will discover what characterizes the modern, data-driven CFO. It will discuss data quality and what that implies. Moreover, you will be presented with examples of how you can invest in and implement technologies to produce powerful insights. Furthermore, the panel will discuss how you can derive meaningful insights from the data and convert it into action. Amplified intelligence will form the formula for success in the future and it will help you create more value for your customers.

14:35 - 15:20 The Future CFO Role - How Will It Evolve?

The change in the CFO role over the last many years have been significant and the outlook for further changes are eminent. CFOs that spend most of their time operating the finance function are only becoming fewer and fewer. Today, Boards of Directors and CEOs expect the CFO to take a much broader functional responsibility, be a catalyst of embedding company-wide data-driven decision-making, and driving digitalization of business model and value driven performance behavior. The management of the finance function is a role that increasingly is delegated to the CFOs direct reports, and CFO hires have to have a more and more general management background. Going forward, the CFO role may be impacted in other ways. The sustainability agenda is becoming more important for most companies. Some argue that the CFO can play a key role in driving this agenda and balancing it with other priorities. The latest development and the outlook for the future raises the following interesting questions for discussion:

  • To what level are we seeing that the role of the Danish CFOs are following the international trends?
  • What expectations do the CFOs stakeholders have to the future CFOs?
  • Given the changes in the CFO role that has happened already – what professional and personal skill sets are important for the CFOs to develop?
  • Can the CFO play a role in defining and setting direction within the field of sustainability?

Today technological advancement mandate that we learn to reinvent our business model and the mindset of our organizations. An example where this is evident is in the retail industry where middlemen are threatened as customers go directly to manufacturers – a good example is Amazon disrupting retail among others. This means that established businesses and legacy brands need to rethink their value proposition and figure out how to utilize the opportunities with digitalization. The pressure is severe and the CFO is required to act now.

In this session, experienced leaders will discuss interesting topics like:

  • How is the technological advancement influencing incumbents? What impact does this have on business models today?
  • How do you survive in the era of tech giants such as Apple, Amazon, and Google?
